Speed Up Your Internet Connection in XP
This nifty tip is for XP Professional users and can help speed up your Internet speeds by 10% to 25%. By default, XP Professional limits 20% of available bandwidth for packets or data deemed as higher priority. This is not necessarily a bad thing, especially for those in business environments since some data should have a higher priority over other data (a business accounting system versus John Doe’s You Tube). However, for the home user, this doesn’t make sense.
Here are the steps to optimize your internet browsing:
Go to Start -> Run-> Type gpedit.msc. The local policy editor is now opening. Go to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Network -> QoS Packet Scheduler. Enable this setting and change Limit Reservable Bandwidth to 0% from 20%. Restart your computer.
Keep in mind that that this change affects every user on the computer. Also, if you’re making this change on a work computer, any changes made at the higher level Group Policies will override the local policy.
