How to Use Asterisk Software IP PBX – Part 1
Welcome to this 10 part video series on Asterisk, an open source VOIP communications platform, considered a complete software based IP PBX. During these 10 videos, I walk you through installing and configuring Asterisk, configuring extensions, setting up dial plans, soft phones and Trixbox – a great web interface which makes configuring Asterisk very simple.
For those of you new to Asterisk, it is an open source and free software implementation of a telephone private branch exchange (PBX) originally created by Mark Spencer of Digium. This VOIP (voice over IP) technology is similar to traditional phone systems: a number of telephones can make calls to one another, conferences calling, voicemail, interactive voice response (IVR) and many other fantastic features.
Another great advantage to Asterisk is that can be easily configured on Linux, including a pre-configured virtual appliance which you can use with VMWare’s VMWare Player – another free product.
So, let’s get started with the first video: Asterisk Part 1 - Installing Asterisk
