How to Use Asterisk Software IP PBX - Part 5
In the fifth video of this 10 part video series on Asterisk, we continue with contexts and dial plans, including how to use wildcards to reduce the amount of configuration required.
One reason why Asterisk is gaining popularity is the ability of both the hobbyist and large businesses to install and use Asterisk as a successful and robust telephony communications systems.
While building individual dial plans and contexts is fine for the home or small business user, larger implementations require easier methods to create contexts. This is when the context called “incoming-calls-wildcard” makes life easier when configuring hundreds of extensions.
During this 5th video, I also discuss AGI or Asterisk Gateway Interface, which helps make Asterisk a very powerful, scalable and extensible VOIP solution. AGI is used to execute any action you would like via extending your asterisk’s capabilities with custom scripts. You can do absolutely anything with those scripts, like contacting your database, checking with some webpage to get information and every other thing you would like to. And, you can add AGI scripts to your dial plan.
Enough of the chit-chat! Here is video number 5: Using Contexts and Dial Plans - Part 2
