In the fourth video of this 10 part videos series on Asterisk, I introduce your to the concept of contexts and dial plans.
With Asterisk, the dial plan is a set of instructions in asterisk specific language that tells the system what to do with the call. Asterisk dial plans are stored in the extension.conf file.
Dial plans are divided into contexts. Each context contains some rules on how to process particular call. For example, how many seconds to wait until the next step, what to do when there is no answer – hang-up, go to voicemail, etc.
