Get Your Work Done On The Road With Portable Apps
A portable application, or portable app for short, is a software program that does not require any kind of formal installation on a computer’s permanent storage device to be executed. Just store it on any removable storage media such as USB flash drive, flask card, iPod, etc., plug it onto any computer available, then run them off your device or copy the portable app into the computer’s hard disk then run them off from there. After you quit, nothing—no data, cookies, backup files or cached browser page is left behind on the computer you used. It does not leave your “footprint” on a computer that’s accessible to the public. You don’t have to worry about messing up the computer’s current setting as it does not write any data into the computer’s registry. Also, you can back up a portable application simply by copying a folder.
The Portableapps Suite, is a free 89MB download that installs basic open source applications you need to get your work done on the road such as OpenOffice.org suite, Pidgin instant messaging client, VLC media player, Firefox Web Browser, Thunderbird e-mail system, 7-Zip file archiver, Sunbird calendar system, GIMP photo editor, and Clamwin antivirus. Once installed on your portable device and connected to a host machine, it will auto-launch with menus allowing you to select which programs to use.
