Great sites offering free software:
Give Away of the Day offers  software for downloading and installing which otherwise would be available only by purchase. Then again, some of the software offered should be offered for free anyway since some if it is not worth purchasing. I say this because there are often far superior open source products. Having said that, at least a few times each month, there is a particular software package made available that gets a lot of people excited – just look at the comments section.

Another site to check for free software is File Hippo which offers freeware, demo and shareware programs in various categories.While we’re on the topic of free software, it’s worth mentioning SourceForge “The world’s largest development and download repository of Open Source code and applications.”
