Asterisk Video Tutorial - Trixbox Features - Part 1

Trixbox features’ overview Part 1

Ok, there are 2 ways to work with trixbox system, one is in user mode and the other is administration mode. Lets start with user mode.

User mode is that presented to you when you open your trixbox server in your browser, it also tells you about this on the page. Here you can see 4 options, one of them is “home” - this is where we are now. Also we have ARI here which stands for asterisk recording interface, MeetMe – a web interface for creating and administration of conferences and FOP which flash operator panel.

Clicking on ARI will bring user to a login page where you have to enter your extension number, which 200 in my case, and your voicemail password. After clicking on “Submit” button you will be presented with options you can set for your extensions and your voicemail. On voicemail screen you can see what voicemail messages you have, and take some actions with it, like delete it, move it to another folder or forward to another extension.

Call monitor screen allows you to see what calls have been made from your extension and who was calling you. Here are all details about calls, like source and destination, time of call, call duration and if you have enabled call recording, you will be able to download recorded calls from here.

You can set various features here for your extension, like Do Not Disturb mode, voicemail password, email where voicemail should go, call recording settings and many other. Also you can get help on how to use your asterisk features, like accessing your voicemail and setting different modes from your phone.

MeetMe option allows you to create and manage conferences, here you can add conference, see what conferences were held in the past, what are now on, and what conferences are scheduled in the future.

FOP or flash operator panel is another great feature of trixbox, it allows you to monitor in real time what extensions are on and off, who is calling where and what is the status of conferences, trunks and parking lots. Here we see that extension 200 is online, while others are offline. We can also see that there is a conference room called “my conference” setuped.

Lets try to invite extension 200 to participate in out conference, to do this you drag extension’s phone sign to conference area and this is it, our phone is ringing! If we pick up the call we see that conference now has 1 participant and how long it already runs.

Ok, now lets move on and see what we can do about administration with trixbox.
